The hotel is one of the new establishments in Kisumu located on the Kisumu – Vihiga road.

Kisumu streets are adorned with banners welcoming Rotarians to the DCA. The purpose of the district conference is to provide opportunities for networking, inspirational addresses, and discussions of Rotary-related matters.

The conference should also give Rotarians and clubs a vision of Rotary beyond the club level and provide a memorable fellowship experience. Many Rotarians have said that they were never truly enthusiastic about Rotary until they saw an inspirational presentation at a district conference.

The rooms are cosy and spacious.

The hotel has paved walkways that make moving around very easy.

You can also relax at the reception area.

Purpose of a DCA

The purpose of the district conference is to provide opportunities for networking, inspirational addresses, and discussions of Rotary-related matters. The event should recognize the service programs, projects, and public relations achievements in the district in order to inspire Rotarians to become more involved in service.

The conference should also give Rotarians and clubs a vision of Rotary beyond the club level and provide a memorable fellowship experience. Many Rotarians have said that they were never truly enthusiastic about Rotary until they saw an inspirational presentation at a district conference.

Every person who attends a DCA finds that being a Rotarian becomes even more rewarding because of the new experiences, insights and acquaintances developed at the conference. Those who attend a conference enjoy going back, year after year.

What to expect

At a minimum, your district conference program/itinerary should address the following:

  1. Schedule the RI president’s representative’s two conference addresses and the brief remarks at the end of the conference.
  2. Discuss and adopt the audited financial statement from the previous Rotary year.
  3. Approve the district levy, if it was not approved at the district assembly or presidentselect training seminar.
  4. Elect the district’s representative to the Council on Legislation, during the Rotary year two years before the Council meets, if the district chooses not to use the nominating committee procedure.
  5. Elect the member of the nominating committee for the RI Board of Directors, as appropriate for your zone.

Many Rotarians have said that they were never truly enthusiastic about Rotary until they saw an inspirational presentation at a district conference.

The DCA is an important event in the calendar of Rotary. Go through the program and see interesting activities and sessions that you can participate in. There are sessions that need a dress code. The most IMPORTANT item you must not forget to wear at all times is your Rotary pin.

Day 1 – Thursday 20th April

It will be a relaxed evening with lots of drinks flowing.

Registration opens at 8am at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel. Ensure you get your name badge and DCA bag.

There are also seminars and Master Class sessions that will be going on in the various rooms. Make sure you register in advance for the sessions.

In the evening, there will be a cocktail happy hour to mark the start of the DCA. You are allowed to dress down as it will be a session to socialise and network with other Rotarians.

Day 2 – Friday 21st April

There will be lots of photo opportunities. Make sure you look glam! Do NOT forget to wear your Rotary pin.

The day will start at 8am and end at 5:15pm.  The recommended dress code is official. There is also the option of smart casual.

Friday night will be Ohangla night – food and good music!

In the evening, DG Richard Omwela will host Rotarians to a sumptuous dinner at the Grand Royal Swiss hotel – the same venue where the DCA is taking place. The theme is African. Do not forget to wear your best dancing shoes. It will be an Ohangla night – food and good music!

Day 3 – Saturday 22nd April

Saturday night dress code is WHITE. See how lovely Lupita looks in white. You have no excuse!

For a Saturday, smart casual dressing is a good idea. In the evening is the DG’s banquet. Dress in white. Like snow white ok? On this night, DG Omwela ceremoniously hands over to DGE Peter Mbui. There is a special attire for this. This is another evening of dancing and merry making. Again, wear good dancing shoes. Trust me, it will be a long night.

 Bonus…

Remember to check the weather. There are signs of rain. See you in Kisumu!
